Bagamoyo is among the famous historical sites in the world due to its amaizing and unique features and history..Though it protrays important historical information people still take it as common.But here is wat is so special about this beautiful town with attractive scenery....
It is said the word Bagamoyo originated from an expression'Bwaga moyo' meaning 'Tuliza moyo' in swahili or 'Lay the burden of your heart'..It was mostly used to give encouragement and hope to the slaves..The bwaga moyo word was used by two classes mainly the owners and the slaves themselves..The Arabs(owners) used it to encorage the slaves to get a rest after a long caravan journey and the slaves used it as well to give themselves hope and refreshment due to the fact that they had no hope of getting back to their families and also they didn't know what their fate was ahead them.In saying so they had to allow themselves to rest for a short while in bagamoyo before being taken to Zanzibar,Reunion islands,Europe and America..These slaves had their short rest in two places namely Ngome kongwe and Caravan serai.These two places protray how slavery was practised in E.africa..But what is mostly described is that it was cruelty because Africans were taken as commodities only and they were worthless in humanity..Due to this many people died on the way due to frequent diseases as well as severe torture from their masters who owned them....Afterwards the slaves were transported from the bagamoyo harbour where they could now be taken to other places for labour provision.
It is said history took us far and keeps us to the present whereby most of the Africans taken were ancestors and leaders in African communities.This is how the criteria of history goes by and there is still yet more to come.
